It has been a very wet spring to early summer thus far for many across the Northern Plains, but what is one of the main reasons why the storms continue to pass overhead the Northern Plains? Im sure you’ve seen or heard the word “Heat Dome” buzzing through the news lately and even though it’s not bringing excessive heat into the Northern Plains it is part of the reason why it keeps raining in the same spot so regularly. The heat dome is a persistent thing and doesn’t show any signs of weakening anytime soon. It will continue to move around the southern half of the country as we head into July. However, as the upper-level winds and troughs try to cross the country they hit the dome and are deflected away around the edge of the heat dome. Even though storms are within the heat dome. The main path of the upper-level trough and disturbances track over the Northern Plains. This is what is bringing the every couple of days chance for storms and rain, as well as part of the record rainfall and flooding.
