Wind chills this morning bottomed out at 53 BELOW in Whapeton while everyone else was 30 below or colder:

Dangerous cold will continue this week all courtesy of the AO (Arctic Oscillation) notice the chart as it dips to -6 mid month assuring we will have arctic air entrenched in the area. Anytime the AO goes that far in the negative, Arctic air typically pours into the lower 48:

BUT….notice as we approach the end of the month…..the AO is approaching “neutral” territory which means we should see a moderation in temps. The AO is what is keeping the “stormy” part of the LRC cycle to our south as well.
