Varland blasted in Twins loss to Rays

The Minnesota Twins dropped another game to the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4 on Wednesday night.

Louie Varland gave up eight runs over 2 ⅓ innings and was tagged with the loss. Carlos Santana hit a two run homer, his 20th of the season. Kyle Farmer also hit a home run, while Matt Wallner drove in a run.

The Twins and Rays will wrap up their series on Thursday afternoon with first pitch set for 12:10 p.m. Pablo Lopez will be on the bump for Minnesota.

Cleveland still leads the AL Central with the Twins and Royals currently tied for second 4 1/2 games behind the Guardians.
