The Minnesota Twins dropped their 2025 home opener to the Houston Astros 5-2 on Thursday afternoon.
Minnesota scored two runs in the first inning on a Carlos Correa RBI groundout and a Trevor Larnach RBI single. After leading 2-0 in the first inning, the Twins would give up five unanswered runs the rest of the game.

Joe Ryan gave up four runs on five hits over five innings with six strikeouts, eventually being tagged with the loss. Louie Varland gave up one run in an inning of relief followed by a shutout inning from Jorge Alcala. Darren McCaughen struck out four batters in a scoreless outing over the final two innings.
The Twins now have an off day on Friday, before continuing their series with the Astros on Saturday afternoon. First pitch will be slated for 1:10 p.m. with Bailey Ober scheduled to get the nod for Minnesota while Spencer Arrighetti starts for Houston.
