UNITED STATES – Two area teams are taking part in Sports Illustrated’s National High School Mascot Tournament.
The #5 Moorhead Spuds are taking on the #13 Valley City Hi-Liners. Voting for this second round matchup ends at 10:59 PM on April second. The winner will face the Hesston, Kansas Swathers or Goodrich, Michigan Martians.

The Spuds defeated the Yuma, Arizona Criminals in round one while the Hi-Liners beat the Bonanza, Oregon Antlers.
In 2020 the Spuds won the Minnesota State High School League’s Nickname Tournament Challenge. Moorhead defeated the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms.
The Spuds’ nickname honors the history of potato farming in the area. The Hi-Liners are named after the Hi-Line Bridge above the Sheyenne River.
