SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Moorhead Spuds boys’ hockey have been to the State Tournament 21 times, but have yet to win a championship.
In fact, Moorhead has lost in the championship game eight times, the most without a state title.
Head Coach Jon Ammerman says the team is working hard to check that box.
“When Moorhead was runner-up previously, some of these guys weren’t born yet. Although it is a history for our program in general, and one they’re well aware of, some of these guys weren’t even on the planet when these things were happening,” Ammerman said.
Minnesota State commit Mason Kraft, who’s father is former Gopher and Sharks player Ryan Kraft, says the team isn’t concerned about pressure.
“We’ve done a really good job this year of keeping the outside noise on the outside,” Kraft explained.
Michigan State commit Brooks Cullen, the son of three-time Stanley Cup champion Matt Cullen, is ready to play well in St. Paul and isn’t worried about the team not having a title yet.
“We really don’t think about that. Obviously we want to do it for the community and we want to do it for all the people who came before us because there’s really no place better to play,” Cullen said.
