The Bison hosted the Fighting Hawks in the late game of a Saturday afternoon double header.
Jacksen Moni extended his dominant stretch of basketball Saturday, as he dropped the first eight points of the game for North Dakota State. NDSU would work out to an early lead in the first half, although the Fighting Hawks remained close all throughout the half. A Reggie Thomas made three-point attempt with under 10 minutes to play in the half had UND within a single point. North Dakota State just wouldn’t let the Hawks eclipse the lead.
With just a minute to go in the half, NDSU finally had a little room to work with, as they lead by 10. The Hawks, however, would go on to score six straight points quickly, to bring this game within four heading into break.
Jacari White would come out of the locker room trying to build a lead, as he scored nine straight points for the Bison early in the second half. This stretch would help the Bison work their lead back up to 12 at one point.
This game would remain the same until seven minutes left. The Fighting Hawks had slowly crawled back into this contest, as they pulled within three points. A Treysen Eaglestaff layup brought them to within a single point again with just under six to play, but once again, UND just couldn’t get over the hump.
Around a minute left to play, the game was within a single possession when Deng Mayar hit a free throw to bring the score to 81-78. Jacksen Moni and Tajaivis Miller had other plans however, as they knocked down four straight free throws to secure this rollercoaster of a game at 87-82.
Senior Jacksen Moni finshed his Saturday with a double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jacari White also had an efficient day, finishing with 20 points and two assists. The Hawks were lead in scoring by junior Treysen Eaglestaff, as he finished with 22 points and seven rebounds.
The win brings the Bison to 5-2 in Summit League play and 16-6 overall. The Bison are next scheduled to host the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits on Thursday, January 30, in Fargo. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Scheels Arena.
