Dragons sweep weekly NSIC honors

Three Minnesota State University Moorhead football players have earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors, the league office announced on Monday.

Quarterback, Jack Strand, was named the NSIC’s Offensive Player of the Week after leading the conference in passing yards (475), touchdowns (5), and completions (47). Additionally, his 47 completions were both a school and conference single-game record. The Bloomer, Wis. native, set a new career-high with 475 yards passing in the win. Strand also set a new program record passing Demetrius Carr for the most passing yards in a career.

Defensive back, Cody Sorenson, found himself being named the NSIC’s Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against No. 18 Augustana. The Bismarck, N.D. native, totaled a game-high nine tackles and intercepted two passes. His first INT came on the first play from scrimmage while his second INT came with 15 seconds remaining in the game and sealed MSUM’s upset over the Vikings. Six of Sorenson’s nine tackles were solo.

True Freshman kicker, Max Watson, is being honored by the NSIC as the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week. The Fargo, N.D. native, led the conference totaling 13 points this past weekend. Watson connected on four extra points and was 3-3 on field goals, all of which were from at least 40-yards out (40, 41, 45).

The Dragons will now hit the road to battle Winona State on Saturday. Game coverage will be available on The Flag (AM 1100 / FM 92.3) with the pregame starting at 12:30 p.m. and kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
