On Monday night the UConn Huskies defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 75-60 to defend their National Championship. The Huskies are the first team to repeat as champions since the Florida Gators accomplished the feat in 2007. Additionally, the Alabama Crimson Tide made a run to the Final Four for the first time in program history with the help of Devils Lake native Grant Nelson. North Carolina State won five ACC Tournament games in five days to punch their ticket to the tournament, advancing to the Final Four for the first time since 1983 when the program was led by Jim Valvano. As for the national runners up, the Boilermakers made their first run to the Final Four since 1980.
