Toxic algae blooms present across multiple North Dakota waterways

BISMARCK, ND — A North Dakota state agency wants hunters in the lakes and wetlands to be extra cautious for a toxic blue-green algae.

Officials with the Department of Environmental Quality say it could be present in waterways across the state, and multiple areas are seeing watches, advisories, and warnings. It produces a toxin that can cause health issues in humans and be deadly for pets.

Authorities say to avoid bodies of water that have spilled green paint of pea soup on its surface.
