(ROSEAU) – A Roseau woman has been sentenced in a case involving a child. According to court documents, in May 2024, the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office was informed of a report that a daycare provider assaulted a child under her supervision. The investigating officer observed injuries via photos.
The officer, along with Roseau County Social Services, went to speak with Arrial Lovelace. She was not home at the time, but later reported to the sheriff’s office for an interview, in which she admitted to ‘smacking the child,’ according to court documents. Lovelace was charged with felony third degree assault-victim under four and gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child-less than substantial bodily harm.
On Tuesday, Lovelace was sentenced to a year in jail on the malicious punishment of a child charge, which was suspended. She was also placed on unsupervised probation for a period of one year. She’s also required to get an anger management assessment.
The third degree assault charge was dismissed.
