Republican wins Minnesota Senate seat in special election

(REGIONAL) – With all 80 precincts reporting, Republican Keri Heintzeman has won the Minnesota District 6 State Senate special election.

The election was necessary after the resignation of former state Senator Justin Eichorn, who resigned after being arrested by Bloomington Police on suspicion of soliciting a minor for sex in March. He resigned three days after the arrest and was charged in federal court the same day with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

Heintzeman defeated DFL challenger Denise Slipy by more than 4,000 votes.
