Proposal related to enhanced oil recovery to come before N.D. legislature

(BISMARCK, ND) – A legislative proposal related to enhanced oil recovery will be debated this session, and a local state legislator supports it.

“I think it’s important,” District 27 State Representative Greg Stemen said. “How do we most effectively get the best possible return on investment from the oil and gas reserves that we have in the western part of the state? And enhanced oil recovery is a big part of that.”

Stemen said the percentage of oil can be improve to allow citizens and the state to continue to benefit into the future. He said he supports the research.

“That’s us continuing to generate some revenue from what we’ve been blessed with in our geography in North Dakota.”

Lynn Helms, who recently retired as the long-time Director of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, says he believes the state needs a project like the one proposed to move enhanced oil recovery forward.

“The state is going to have to reinvest some of the petro dollars that it collects move that project forward,” he said. “I think that’s the kind of incentive that we need to see.”
