Polls open for Minnesota 6th Senate District special primary

(MINNESOTA) – Polls are open on Tuesday for a special primary to fill a vacant seat in Minnesota’s 6th Senate District.

The district includes residents in Cass, Crow Wing and Itasca Counties.

The primary is being held to select candidates for a special election on April 29.

Governor Walz scheduled the special primary and election after the resignation of Senator Justin Eichorn, who is facing federal charges related to attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

Prosecutors say Eichorn messaged an undercover officer posing as a 17-year-old girl agreeing to pay her for sex. He was arrested when he arrived to meet her in Bloomington.

Nine candidates – eight Republican and one Democrat-Farmer-Labor – filed for the seat.

Polls opened at 7am and will close at 8pm.
