There is no longer a Northwood Police Department. The Chief of Police in the town of 900 was the only member of the police force and he resigned effective yesterday to accept a position outside of law enforcement. For now, police calls in Northwood will be handled by the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, which is about 40 miles away. The Sheriff’s Office said it’ll try to have a deputy no more than five or ten minutes from Northwood. A special council meeting to talk about policing is planned for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Northwoods Community Center.
