NDGOP, District 23 speak out against comments by Rep. Rios

(STATEWIDE) – North Dakota’s District 23 Republicans the North Dakota Republican Party are speaking out after Rep. Nico Rios made comments about the President of Mexico on social media.

Eearlier this month, Rios referred to Mexican President Claudia Pardo in a social post as a Jew.

District 23 GOP’s Executive Committee issued a vote of no confidence for Rios. The District Republican Party said they ‘condemn the antisemitic comments’ made by Rios. In a statement from the North Dakota GOP, Chairwoman Sandi Sanford said the comments by Rios ‘go directly against our platform and values.’ She said Rios ‘needs to recognize the seriousness of his acts.’

There was another incident involving Rios. In December,  he made comments which were described by law enforcement as “verbally abusive, homophobic, racially abusive and discriminatory.” Rios also attempted to use his position as a state lawmaker to intimidate police and avoid an arrest. He apologized.
