ND Meteorologist will help keep firefighters safe in Oregon

BISMARCK, ND — A meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Bismarck has been deployed to help firefighters in Oregon.

Nathan Heinert is considered an Incident Meteorologist. He will assess conditions in the fire areas and inform crews when there is lightning, erratic winds or an approaching storm that can threaten firefighters.

Heinert will launch weather balloons and chart ground observations in an effort to keep those on the front of the fire lines safe.
