(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is being sued by state Republicans over the scheduling of a special election for a Minnesota House seat.
The Republican Party says Walz jumped the gun by setting the date for the District 40-B election for later this month. The lawsuit claims that the election cannot be scheduled until after the legislature has been in session for 22 days. The next session of the legislature begins on January 14th.
Walz criticized the move, saying in a statement that Republicans are trying to use the courts to prevent Democratic lawmakers from being seated.
