(St. Paul, MN) — The state of Minnesota can’t ban adults under 21 years old from carrying guns.
A federal appeals court ruled today that it’s unconstitutional to require residents to be at least 21 years old to get a permit to carry a handgun for self-defense. The panel of judges found the Minnesota law violates the Second Amendment. Gun rights groups filed the lawsuit, arguing the law violated the rights of 18 to 20 year olds.
Similar lawsuits have been filed in other states, including Illinois and Pennsylvania.
