MINNEAPOLIS, MN– A Minneapolis man who spent nearly two decades in prison before his murder conviction was thrown out is seeking nearly $2-million dollars from the state.
Marvin Haynes spent 18-years in Stillwater prison after being convicted in the shooting death of a north Minneapolis flower shop worker. The conviction was based on eyewitness testimony and no forensic evidence like DNA or fingerprints.
Haynes has filed a claim seeking $100,000 from the state for every year he was in prison. His lawyers claim he suffers from trauma and has sought mental health treatment.
