(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota’s legislative session is capped at 80 days every two years.
With the deadline of May 9 fast approaching, legislative leaders are ramping up the work of the citizen-led body. In a session Friday afternoon, leaders spoke about the plans heading into the final days of session.
House Majority Leader Mike Lefor told House members that, in consultation with Senate leadership, several days will likely be saved ‘in response to what the federal government may be doing in a few different areas.’
He said conference committees may meet ‘several times a day,’ as 58 bills are left to be discussed in the committees. The only times the conference committees will not meet is when the House and Senate are in their respective floor sessions. They may also be called in on Saturday.
Senate Majority Leader David Hogue both chambers will gavel in at 8 a.m. Monday.
He says the schedule will ‘unpredictable and intense.’
Leaders say approximately 170 bills are left to be decided on between the two houses.
