Keystone Pipeline is back running after oil spill

NEAR FORT RANSOM, N.D. – The Keystone Pipeline is running again.

South Bow, the company that owns it, shut down the flow of oil last week after a rupture and spill near Fort Ransom but restarted the system on Monday.

An estimated 147,000 gallons of oil was spilled.

A statement from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration says the section of the pipeline that failed has been replaced and is being sent for testing.

PHMSA, which is remaining on site for now, issued a corrective order that required the operator to resume oil flow at reduced pressure while testing is conducted.

The federal agency is also requiring submission of a root cause analysis.
