Hearing for House District 54A seat continues

(Shakopee, MN) — A hearing that could decide which political party controls the Minnesota House is underway in Shakopee.

Attorneys for DFL Representative Brad Tabke and Republican candidate Aaron Paul presented their arguments to a judge yesterday. Paul believes a special election should be held to determine the winner of the District 54-A seat after 20 absentee ballots were thrown away by mistake. Paul lost the election by 14 votes. Tabke says a special election would hurt other voters in the district because special elections usually have low turnouts.

The judge’s decision in the case could determine whether Republicans control the chamber, or if it remains evenly split between the DFL and the GOP.
