(PIERRE, SD) — If you’re going outside to enjoy the warmer weather, South Dakota health officials say you should be aware of ticks.
Tick activity is reportedly increasing already across the state. The season typically starts about this time of year and continues into October.
South Dakota’s deputy state epidemiologist Dustin Ortbahn is urging people looking to enjoy the outdoors to be mindful of ticks and use preventative measures. They can transmit diseases to humans and pets.
Ortbahn says checks are really important for yourself, others and pets after being in wooded or brushy environments throughout the warmer months.
