State's Attorney rules Grand Forks man acted in self defense

(Grand Forks, ND) — Prosecutors have ruled a deadly shooting at an apartment building in Grand Forks as an act of self-defense.

The Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office cleared 24-year-old Javon Lowery of wrongdoing in the shooting death of 53-year-old Dwight Cross. The shooting happened in the hallway of the Stanford Manor Apartments in April, when Cross pointed what appeared to be a gun at Lowery, prompting Lowery to fatally shoot Cross. The item held by Cross was later determined to be a pellet gun.

Cross later died at Altru hospital
