Pope Francis dies

(Vatican City) — Pope Francis’ death was announced this morning by Cardinal Kevin Farrell in a statement from the Vatican.

Farrell said that Pope Francis “returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized.” He said that there’s immense gratitude for Francis’ example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus.

Born Jorge Bergoglio in Argentina in 1936, Pope Francis – the first leader of the Catholic Church from the Americas – was 88 years old.
