A new poll shows a majority of Americans still support the idea of a third political party. A Gallup poll released Tuesday shows 58-percent of U.S. adults agree that the country needs a third party because the Democratic and Republican parties “do such a poor job” of representing the American people. That support is actually down about five-percent from a record high last year, but remains above the average 56-percent support seen since 2003. Along party lines, independent voters were most in favor of a third party at 69-percent. Meanwhile, Democratic support jumped from 46-percent last year to 53-percent and Republican support fell from 58-percent to 48-percent.
