Pennsylvania fire department apologizes after depicting Kamala Harris in chains at parade

MOUNT PLEASANT, PA — The Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania Volunteer Fire Department is apologizing for some Halloween parade participants who depicted Vice President Kamala Harris being led behind a golf cart in chains.

The cart was surrounded by a couple of people dressed as Secret Service agents and someone in a Donald Trump mask was riding in the back. The display was part of the parade that traveled down Main Street through the borough on Wednesday night. In a statement released yesterday, fire department representatives said they do not share the values represented by those involved in the parade entry and went on to explain that they were not aware of the content that would be included.

The Pittsburgh chapter of the NAACP said the display sent a “troubling message that demeans and dehumanizes Black and Brown individuals.”
