Hoeven supports bill to cut funding to UN agencies which harm Israel’s status on the world stage

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — North Dakota Senator John Hoeven is among those on Capitol Hill supporting the Stand With Israel Act.

Hoeven joined Idaho Senator Jim Risch and 32 of their Senate colleagues in introducing the legislation Wednesday. It’s aim is to combat what they are calling the persecution of Israel by the UN. The act would cut off funding to UN agencies that expel, downgrade, suspend or otherwise restrict the participation of the State of Israel.

“Without Israel’s partnership, terrorists, extremists, and authoritarians would run rampant across the Middle East, threatening global security and positioning themselves to target the United States directly,” said Senator Hoeven. “That’s why it’s important we send a message to the UN by showing support in defending our vital ally.”

Senator Risch added to the conversation by saying “any attempt to altar Israel’s status at the U.N. is clearly antisemetic.”

Below is a majority of the text supported by Senator Hoeven.

‘‘No funds made available to the Department of State or any other Federal department or agency may be made available for contributions to the United Nations or any of its funds, programs, specialized agencies, or other related entities that expels, downgrades or suspends membership, or otherwise restricts the participation of Israel such that it may not participate fully and equivalently with other Member States of the United Nations or the respective fund, program, specialized agency, or other related entity.’’.
