Harris set to propose federal ban on grocery and food price gouging

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Kamala Harris is planning to propose a federal ban on corporate price-gouging in food and groceries.

The Democratic presidential hopeful will unveil her economic policy platform this Friday at a campaign rally in North Carolina. In a statement Wednesday, the Harris campaign said “There’s a big difference between fair pricing in competitive markets and excessive prices unrelated to the costs of doing business.”

Harris reportedly plans to scrutinize potential mergers between supermarkets and food producers that would raise grocery prices.
