WINDER, GA — State officials are crediting new GPS technology with saving lives during the Georgia school shooting.
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith says Apalachee High School staff had just started using new ID badges equipped with GPS technology just last week. When the event was unfolding on Wednesday, school staff members pushed the GPS panic button on the badge, helping police pinpoint where they needed to go inside the school.
The sheriff also praised the school’s resource officers for talking the shooter into surrendering.
