FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo City Commission postponed a vote on possibly making the mayor a full-time position and adding two more commissioners.
The 30-day delay was made so commissioners and Mayor Tim Mahoney could hear from the public.
Other cities in the region with full-time mayors include Sioux Falls and Duluth.
“Fargo doesn’t have excess money. We would have to create space in the budget for this and that’s going to mean either raising taxes or cutting other services,” City Commissioner Michelle Turnberg said.
The commission is also looking into possibly changing into a city council.
Those on the commission can currently live anywhere in Fargo, but a city council has a ward system with members required to live in their respective ward.
