US Interior Sec: “Smart money is on America” to benefit from Trump tariff strategy

Washington D.C. – U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum says he’s confident President Trump will carry the United States to a “great spot” economically with his tariff plan.

Despite the rocky nature of late with markets and retaliatory tariffs by the likes of Europe and China, the former North Dakota governor says the end goal is to achieve a “balance” with global trade partners.

“The signal is the smart money is on America long term,” Burgum told The Flag’s Scott Hennen.

Burgum claims “trillions of dollars” are flowing into the U.S. to shore up manufacturing and “over 50 countries” have reached out to the U.S. to say they’re “ready to start negotiating.”

Critics of the tariff strategy, like former U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick, worry about the damage being done to the country’s reputation and favors “openness, not barriers”

But Burgum believes President Trump is the right person to handle this.

“He [Trump] is the best equipped president we’ve ever had who knows how to actually negotiate and do deals,” said Burgum.  “I have a lot of confidence.”
