Trial begins for man facing murder charges in Grand Forks shootout

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A Grand Forks man is set to be in court Tuesday for murder charges tied to a shootout with police.

Jeffrey Simpson pled guilty to eight charges mostly involving domestic violence on Monday, but he still awaits trial for four counts of attempted murder of police officers.

Police responded to a report of a woman being held hostage by Simpson at his apartment. Police say it resulted in a standoff with the 30-year-old and gunfire was exchanged.

Simpson faces up to 20 years in prison if he’s convicted.
