Summit Carbon Solutions hold SD public meetings on CO2 pipeline

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Public meetings are underway for Summit Carbon Solution’s reapplication to build a carbon dioxide pipeline in the state.

Wednesday’s meeting in Sioux Falls was one of six being held across South Dakota this week. Summit presented a brief overview on the pipeline before opening up for public comment. The project aims to capture carbon and then store it underground near Bismarck.

Summit’s first application in South Dakota was denied. The state’s Public Utilities Commission ruled the pipeline’s proposed route is in violation of setback ordinances in four counties that establish minimum distances between pipelines and homes. North Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota have signed off on the project.
