(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota legislators will soon descend on Bismarck for the next session of the North Dakota legislature, and one of the biggest topics that will be discussed is property taxes.
North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong previously said that property tax reform is his top priority for the 2025 legislative session, which kicks next Tuesday, January 7, with Armstrong’s State of the State address at 1 p.m. in House chambers.
North Dakota District 27 State Representative Greg Stemen says the biggest issue is sustainability.
“I think the most important thing that we need to do is put something in place that is sustainable,” he said.
He said property tax credits are a cost, and that the state ‘has to balance those things out.’
Stemen said he’d like to consider ‘reigning in’ the percentage of increase local political subdivisions can place on property owners.
“I think that might factor in,” he said.
Stemen made the comments on The Flag’s What’s On Your Mind.
