Senate passes Hoeven resolution to block Biden natural gas tax

Scott Hennen’s interview with Sen. John Hoeven

WASHINGTON – The Senate passes North Dakota Senator John Hoeven’s resolution to block implementing former President Joe Biden’s natural gas tax which was part of Democrats’ climate law in 2022.

The Environmental Protection Agency rule charges producers $900 per ton of excess methane released.

“That’s a tax that every single consumer would have paid to heat their home or cook their food at a time when we’re fighting inflation. It shows how wrong-headed the Biden policies were,” Hoeven said.

The Senate voted 52 to 47 along party lines. North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer was not able to vote as he’s still recovering from a fall at his home in Bismarck. The House passed companion legislation as well, so the resolution goes to President Donald Trump’s desk for approval or veto.

Hoeven calls the resolution the first legislation to implement President Donald Trump’s energy policy.
