FARGO, N.D. – An off duty police officer is in the right place at the right time while shopping.
Fargo Police says Officer Gage Thesing was shopping on the 4200 block of 13th Avenue South on Monday when he saw a loss detention employee trying to detain a shoplifting suspect near the front door. He saw the suspect becoming physical with the employee, identified himself as a police officer and helped detain the woman.
Officer Thesing took her to the store’s loss prevention office where he says she admitted to shoplifting.
Authorities say after looking at surveillance video 30-year-old Megan Brunner of Fargo was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
“This incident serves as a testament to The Fargo Police Department’s commitment to public safety, whether officers are on or off duty. Officer Thesing’s actions reflect the department’s core value of guardianship, demonstrating the readiness and dedication of its officers to step in and protect the community at a moment’s notice,” Fargo Police said in a statement.
