(GRAND FORKS, ND) – The firm that represented the woman acquitted in the murder of Anita Knutson has released their first comments in the days after the trial.
Sand Law, with offices across North Dakota, said in a post on their social media that the team ‘has been working tirelessly for three years to prepare for this trial.’
Nichole Rice was found not guilty by a judge after several days of testimony and more than a full day of jury deliberations.
“During that time, we became extremely close to our client’s family,” the post continued. “What the courtroom cameras didn’t see were our daily group prayers alongside our client’s family, emotional conversations, and our team standing by as our client and her daughter said their goodbyes prior to the verdict being read. Justice would not have been served by convicting the wrong person.”
Sand Law specifically commented on the reactions after the verdict’s reading.
“When the verdict was read, we reacted emotionally. We sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended, especially to Anita Knutson’s family,” the law office said. “The loss of Anita is heartbreaking and we in no way intended disrespect.”
