(FARGO, ND) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol says it intends to do aerial enforcement detail this summer.
Captain Bryan Niewind says the Patrol is working with Fargo Police to determine dates in which it works to get their plane to Fargo to work with police.
The Patrol also plans on doing aerial enforcement on the state’s interstate system – roads which are no stranger to the same issues the Fargo Police Department is dealing with. He credits the Fargo Police Department’s traffic safety team for ‘doing the best they can.’
Many of the issues being raised by law enforcement include fleeing from traffic stops.
“Sometimes it is difficult,” Niewind said. “We can’t chase somebody at 140 miles per hour through town. You can’t physically do that. It’s not safe for the person you’re pursuing. It’s not safe for the officer pursuing. And it’s definitely not safe for the innocent public that is out there.”
Niewind made the comments on WDAY Radio’s Jay Thomas Show.
