Multiple fires reported in Moorhead

(MOORHEAD, MINN) – A pair of reported structure fires in Moorhead on Thursday kept firefighters busy.

At just after 7 p.m., crews were called to a structure fire in the 1700 block of 5th Street South. When crews arrived on scene, they discovered heavy smoke coming from the rear of the residence and flames spreading up the siding and to the soffit near the back door to the residence.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the attic. No one was injured and the cause remains under investigation, but officials say it appears to be accidental.

While crews were on scene, calls came in for a working fire in the 1200 block of 34th Street Circle South, with people trapped in their apartment. Fargo and Dilworth crews were called in to assist.

Crews found a sprinkler head had activated for an unknown reason, and there were no signs of fire.
