(MOORHEAD, MINN) – A Moorhead man has been sentenced in a March 2023 murder in Clay County.
According to court documents, on March 9, Moorhead Police were called to the 3300 block of 12th Street South on a report that males were yelling and one stated ‘you deserve to die.’ A responding officer arrived and heard a thud come from the apartment. When backup arrived, officers knocked and announced their presence, and the suspect, Douglas Swenson, opened the door slightly. Officers told Swenson why they responded, and he responded everything was ‘good’ in the apartment, and that his brother was inside and sleeping.
Swenson began to get angry, banging his head on the door jam and yelling expletives. The defendant stepped out of the apartment, followed commands and then stated that the victim was dead.
Swenson was sentenced to 439 months in prison with credit for 635 days served.
