DFL Minnesota State Auditor Julie Blaha’s comments on tariffs during a press conference with state auditors and treasurers
MINNESOTA – Minnesota State Auditor Julie Blaha is concerned about if President Donald Trump has a plan on his tariffs and what they money received from them will be used for.
“Trump spends a lot of time talking about how tariffs are going to make us rich. I don’t think we should talk about anyone getting rich before we make sure farmers don’t go broke,” Blaha said.
The DFLer says soybean producers are wondering if countries like China will do business with Americans if the tariffs are cancelled.
Blaha adds the Trump Administration’s $16 billion bailout in 2018 after China imposed retaliatory tariffs on American agriculture products wouldn’t be enough to balance out what farmers are going through right now.
The White House says China is facing up to a 245 percent tariff on imports to the United States. President Donald Trump imposed a 10 percent tariffs on imports from all countries. He paused reciprocal tariffs on certain countries for 90 days.
Trump says trading partners have “looted, pillaged, and raped” American industries for decades, leading to a loss of U.S. jobs and manufacturing.
