UNITED STATES – North Dakota and Minnesota leaders react to the death of former President Jimmy Carter.
Democratic-NPL Party Chair Adam Goldwyn says Carter “represents the American dream” calling his rise from a peanut farmer from rural Georgia to become the 39th president “a testament to our democracy.”
North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer says Carter had “a life well lived” and regardless of whether you agree with his politics, his “legacy of service is unmatched.”
Senator Amy Klobuchar says Carter showed what public service means with his work.
Governor Tim Walz says Carter fought for democracy, the climate and humanity.
Minnesotans also remember Carter for picking Minnesota Senator Walter Mondale as his vice presidential candidate in 1976 on a ticket that was nicknamed Gritz and Fritz.
Carter died Sunday in his hometown of Plains, Georgia at age 100.
