MN Attorney General sues Trump Administration over anti-trans executive orders

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison files a federal lawsuit to stop what he calls “President Donald Trump and his administration from bullying vulnerable children in this state.”

It’s over two executive orders signed by the president banning transgender girls and women from competing in sports with women and girls and saying it’s the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has threatened to sue Minnesota over the MSHSL allowing transgender girls to compete in sports. The High School League says the executive order violates state law banning discrimination based on gender identity.

Ellison claims the executive orders violate the separation of powers in the U.S. Constitution by exceeding the president’s powers and bypass Congress’ powers to legislate. He also argues the president and his administration don’t have the authority under Title IX to rescind federal funding from Minnesota schools based on them not following executive orders.

“Trump’s unconscionable attack on this small number of vulnerable children is bullying, plain and simple. His burning desire to destroy trans kids and punish us for helping them live and thrive isn’t just a violation of the law — it’s a violation of Minnesota values,” Ellison said.

Flag Family News has reached out to the Department of Justice for a response, but haven’t heard back.
