SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is clearing up questions about his political future.
The state’s top lawmaker released a statement saying he has no intentions of running for the vacant U. S. Senate seat. Last week, Senator Tina Smith announced she will retire when her term ends in 2027.
Walz adds he’s looking to run for a third term as governor. He sent a text to supporters asking for donations “to keep fighting for a future where no one is left behind.”
So far, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is the only Democrat in the race for senator. The Walz Administration says the governor will not make an endorsement in the primary.
