RANSOM COUNTY, N.D. – A portion of the Keystone Pipeline has ruptured near Fort Ransom, North Dakota.
Program Manager for the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality Bill Seuss says an employee heard a noise around 7:45 Tuesday morning just south of a pumping station when the spill took place. The pipeline was shut down after the incident.
“They’re reporting it as a small area. I don’t have a size in acreage yet. It is confined to a grass field. There is a stream right there that has been blocked off and has not been impacted at this time. The DEQ is responding to the site. The EPA has informed us somebody will be up to check it out. We’ll make sure it gets cleaned up,” Seuss said.
Seuss says the public shouldn’t be concerned since it’s a fair distance from any population centers adding it will take some time to determine how much oil leaked out and what caused it.
