WASHINGTON – A judge is temporarily blocking the release of special counsel Jack Smith’s final report related to President-Elect Donald Trump’s federal investigations.
Judge Aileen Cannon issued the order after a filing made Monday night by Trump’s former co-defendants. The report had been expected to be released in the coming days before Trump will be sworn in.
Trump’s lawyers sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland saying Smith doesn’t have the power to publicly publish the report because Cannon previously ruled his appointment as special counsel was unlawful.
