House passes ND version of DOGE

BISMARCK, N.D. House lawmakers approve a North Dakota version of the Department of Government Efficiency in an 88-2 vote with four State Representatives not voting.

Those voting against the measure are Republican State Representative Jon O. Nelson of Rugby and Dem-NPL State Representative Liz Conmy of Fargo.

The bill would create a task force to review state programs and recommend areas to cut costs.

Republican State Representative Nathan Toman of Mandan, a sponsor of the legislation, says the proposal is not directly related to the Trump administration’s DOGE, but grew out of his experience on legislative committees and wanting to look for ways to reduce unnecessary duplication.

The bill now advances to the Senate.
