(GRAND FORKS, ND) – The Grand Forks County Commission voted to recommend Sheriff Andy Schneider fire current Correctional Center Administrator Bret Burkholder.
The vote, 3-2, comes as the Sheriff told Commissioners that grant funds, awarded to the Correctional Center, were not spent as allowed under the funding.
Commissioner Terry Bjerke originally made a motion to eliminate Burkholder’s position outright but was taken off the table after State’s Attorney Haley Wamstad told Commissioners that Schneider was the only one who could terminate employees under his jurisdiction.
